Secretary/Treasurer's Report

Jennifer Pals Lilgendahl

Jennifer Pals Lilgendahl It is my pleasure to be reporting to you as we approach the end of 2011, the first of my three-year term as your secretary/treasurer. It has been a great year! Our second ARP stand-alone conference, which took place in June in Riverside, CA, was a great success. Thanks to the dedicated leadership and planning efforts of our President, David Funder, we were able to organize a successful and professional conference at a very reasonable cost, which has helped us maintain the financial health and stability of our organization as we head into 2012. At the close of the conference, the Executive Board had a very productive meeting in which we discussed many important matters for the future of ARP. These included plans for our next meeting in 2013, documentation of our procedures and practices, and exciting new ideas and initiatives for improving our organization as it evolves and grows.

I am also proud to report that we currently have 319 active members on our roster, with 183 regular members and 127 graduate student/post-doc members. While this is indeed a healthy number, we have hovered just over 300 for some time now. It would be exciting to see our membership grow, so please encourage your students and those interested in personality psychology to join! In addition to being part of a vibrant community of personality researchers and the only organization solely dedicated to advancing personality science in the U.S., your membership benefits include subscriptions to two journals—Journal of Research in Personality (JRP) and Social Psychological and Personality Science (SPPS)—and reduced registration fees for the ARP conference, including the next one to be held in the summer of 2013.

Now is the time to renew your membership for 2012. Please be aware that while we maintain a very reasonable one-year rate of $50 for regular members and $35 for graduate students, we have also recently adopted a revised fee structure in which we offer financial incentives to renew your membership for multiple years. Regular members can renew for two years at $95 and for three years at $140, and graduate students and post-docs can renew for two years at $60. We strongly encourage you to consider a multiple-year membership. In addition to minimizing hassle on your end from year to year, it will contribute to stabilizing our membership base over time.

In closing, I look forward to continuing to serve the organization in the upcoming year. Please contact me (jlilgend@haverford.edu) if you have any comments or suggestions. We appreciate your continued support of and participation in ARP!
